Educative intervention about sexuality and self-care in adolescents

ABSTRACT
Introduction: at the present time it is common that the adolescents do not know their sexual development, the changes that take part in sexual and reproductive health, putting them at risks their expectations of health and life.Objective: to evaluate an intervention on sexual education in young subjets from 12 to 14 years about sexuality and measures of selfcare.
Methodology: cuasiexperimental, with random sampling was done in a group of 82 students in the Belisario Domínguez Junior High School. Questionaire was applied prior to the educational intervention handling the topic of sexuality and safe-care in the adolescent; a second test was applied afterwards.
Results: in the pre-measurement evaluation the results were significantly low; however subsequent to the intervention, the majority were able to improve their ranking and average to high and very high; in this study women prevailed with a history on government schools. Most of the students had information of basic education in sexuality, with one ranking very low. The self-care and sexuality indicator showed an increase of 18 %, Contraceptive methods 28 %, Pregnancy risk 43 % and sexual transmited disease 15 % in their respective ranking.
Analysis: the prevention must occur in the context of health promotion considering the reality of the adolescent, sexual transmited disease characteristics and other behavioral risks. To develop suitable programs of intervention according to their specific needs.
