ABSTRACT
Introduction: Typical Burnout signs are: mental tiredness, depersonalization and personal sense of fulfillment abandonment. 40 percent of the economical Mexican active population is depressed. Aim: To identify the association between the Burnout syndrome and the depression in the nursing staff of a High Specialty Hospital. Material and methods: The Burnout syndrome was measured through the Maslach survey. Depression was measured through the Zung survey. Transversal survey. Projective-descriptive study. Results: From the 73 interviewed nurses: 15.07% (11) undergo a complete tiredness, 21.92% (16) show high ranking of depersonalization and 63.01% (46) show high fulfillment sense. Severe depression is evident in 6.85% (5). Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the connection between the Burnout syndrome and depression. Positive correlations were found in each of the three components of the Burnout syndrome. Conclusions and discussion: Burnout and depression were in association within the studied group. The average group, where the scores are high are among 36 ± 5.8 years old, married and with B.A studies. Results are related with seniority. The nursing staff who also works in another hospital has high scores of the syndrome associated with severe depression.REFERENCES
