ABSTRACT
Listeria monocytogenes is a rare cause of disease in general population. It can present as invasive disease in newborns, pregnant, the elderly, and patients with any kind of cellular immunodeficiency in the form of bacteremia or meningoencephalitis. The diagnosis of L. monocytogenes meningitis is difficult, reporting negative up to 50% of the Gram stain samples. For treatment of this condition, it´s considered as first choice the use of ampicillin, with addition of an aminoglycoside as gentamicin or amikacin for 14 days. The present case, about a one year old boy with B cells precursor´s acute lymphoblastic leukemia and L. monocytogenes meningitis, addresses the importance of considering Listeria monocytogenes as an etiologic agent of meningitis in haemato-oncologic patients and those with any kind of immunosupression for early detection and treatment.REFERENCES
