Kawasaki disease. Prevalence in Children’s Private Hospital

ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the prevalence of Kawasaki Disease in children hospitalized between 1992 to 2005 at Hospital Infantil Privado.
Methods: We reviewed the pediatric patient clinical files diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease in the period of June 1992 to June 2005. The diagnosis was established with the following criteria: fever ›5 days in addition to four of the following (conjunctival hyperemia, changes in oral mucosa, changes in hands and feet, rash, cervical or submandibular lymphadenopathy.
Results: A total of 48 cases of Kawasaki Disease were identified: 58% were male, 42% female. The average age was two years. 75% of the cases occurred in winter and spring. In the last three years occurred 64.4% of the cases. The incidence of EF was 2.5 cases per 1000 hospital discharges.
Conclusions: The frequency of Kawasaki Disease has increased in recent years, mainly in children under 5 years (94%) with predominance of males, 6.3% of patients had cardiovascular complications, 6.3% of patients had recurrence.
