Vertebral Langerhans cell histiocytosis causing spinal cord compression in an infant

ABSTRACT

We present a case of thoracic spine Langerhans cell histiocytosis (histiocytosis X). This is an uncommon location and was the cause of compression of the spinal cord in a two-year old infant, diagnosed and treated at the National Institute of Pediatrics, México. We describe the clinical, radiological and pathological findings. The neurological improvement and follow-up after surgical treatment and chemotherapy are discussed.
