Idiopathic abscesses are not often reported on in the medical literature. They are found predominantly in immunosuppressed persons and are very rare in healthy patients. The clinical case of a 55-year-old man presenting with this uncommon pathology is reported with reference to the diagnostic approach, treatment and secondary complications, followed by a review of the medical literature.
