ABSTRACT
Chemical ocular burns are emergencies that need immediate care. Initial treatment by adequately irrigating the affected eye is the best way of reducing the time of contact between the eye and the offending agent. Their physiopathology and clinical findings are presented, as well as their immediate therapy, with special attention at ocular irrigation procedure, so that opportunities to offer an adequate treatment in an emergency room or pre-hospital facility are achieved. Complications related to chemical ocular burns are also list, so as to emphasize the need of an early ophthalmic evaluation.
