Estrategias para la prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de la enfermedad renal crónica temprana en primer nivel de atención

ABSTRACT

Despite the growing incidence and prevalence of ESRD, vast majority of patients in early stages of renal disease, are neither timely diagnosed and/or treated, for that reason they do not receive nephroprotection treatment and ESRD is continuous increasing. Focus in primary or secondary prevention instead of treating long term complications of renal disease it is an opportunity area to be explored (especially in primary physicians). Timely detection of chronic renal damage in high risk population could establish strategies to stop or slow progression in renal disease. It is necessary induce the scientific interest and knowledge in doctors regarding nephroprotection strategies to prevent the consequences of renal disease, to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. However some renal progression risk factors are strongly associated to uncontrolled bad life-style habits. Multiple interventions could improve some bad life-style habits and the self-care, and eventually contribute to renal function preservation and to reduce the global ESRD burden.
