ABSTRACT
Postoperative enterocutaneous fistulas are serious conditions that endangers the patient’s life, and usually occur as a result of treatment of cancer, inflammatory bowel disease or the release of adhesions, although they can occur following a secondary septic intraabdominal process. Once established, the hope is to achieve a spontaneous closure without surgical exploration by applying the basic principles of care such as: infection control, nutritional support and local control of the fistula, after a cautious waiting period once the infection has resolved and the patient’s condition permits if the fistula did not resolve, you should not delay the surgical approach to offer a definitive treatment and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
