ABSTRACT
Introduction. The thermal nociceptive tail-flick reflex is used in studies of nociception in animals. Considering that one of the factors that modify this reflex is the age, studies that include long periods of animal’s life are inexistent. They only explore the childhood and/or adulthood.
Objective. To analyze whether the age modifies the latency of thermal nociceptive tail-flick reflex.
Method. 12 Wistar male rats were used which were subjected to six trials at different ages (days 7, 11, 17, 29, 90 and 120 of age). The tests consisted in application of only one thermal nociceptive stimulus of 45º C on the ventral region of the tail and the latency of tail-flick reflex was analyzed.
Results. The age modifies the latency of tail-flick reflex in the first 11 postnatal days and since then the animals present the same response that an adult animal.
