Oral habits and dental caries in pre-school population of the delegation Milpa Alta, its relationship with socioprofessional variables

ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the dental decay prevalence of in the pediatric population of three to five years old and the buccal habits and the relation that it has with the social professionals variables of their mothers and the type of service on watch to wihch they go to solve their buccal problems in the Milpa Alta delegation in Mexico city.Method: The present study was of type descriptive, transversal and observational and it was made on the months of april to august of 2008. The sample was constituted by 344 preschoolers of 3, 4 and 5 years of age of eight Centers of Infantile Development that are distributed within the Delegation.
For the buccal examination of the preschoolers we used the ceod index that it was approved for the OMS in this we count with the participation of 9 interns of the Dentistry career of the Fes Zaragoza and two teachers previously calibrated (kappa=0.80). The information was captured in the SPSS software 15.0 version.
Results: The average of the dental decay in the temporal dentition at three years old was of 2.2; at four of 4.2 and at five years old was 4.7. The general average was of 3.7. The average of the dental decay in the feminine sex was of 3.75 and in the masculine of 3.61. There statistical differences (t ‹0.05).
Conclussions: The dental decay is the main problem in this population. It has a direct relation with the social variables like the occupation, instruction, and the income of the mothers. This are factors that we have to considerate for the comprehension of the buccal health–disease and at the time generate specific proposals chords to this reality.
