ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to verify the utility and simplicity of a method consisting of administering to pregnant women with associated risk factors. 50gr of oral glucose without fasting or any special schedule and, at the same time, to investigate the incidence of gestational diabetes in our population under study due to the fact that there are no previous studies on this respect. This test, which we will call “test I”, was applied to 103 pregnant women between 26 and 28 weeks of gestational age, from which 11 resulted with capillary glicemia of 140 mg or more. To this 11 women, the usual test for determining oral glucose tolerance (100gr), here called “test II” was conduct by determining their glucose level without breakfast and after 60, 120 and 180 minutes. From these, 8 cases of gestational diabetes were diagnosed, all of them with risk factors. It is concluded that, due to its simplicity and usefulness of the “test I” and it is proposed that it should be applied as a test of routine use in the proces s of monitoring pregnant women with associated risk factors.
