ABSTRACT
Leptospyrosis has been recognized as an important emerging public health issue world wide due to its epidemic proportions. Leptospyrosis is perhaps the most spread zoonosis world wide, and the infectious source in human beings is the direct and indirect contact with the urine of an infected animal. The most common clinical manifestations of leptospyrosis are fever, headache, muscle pain, bone pain and vomit. Different blood markers and specific diagnostic tests have been developed for leptospyrosis with different utilities. Several serotypes of Leptospiracaea are sensitive to a broad variety of antibiotics including TROPICALpenicillins, cephalosporines, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines and macrolids. Mortality associated with leptospyrosis varies from 1-20% and depends on several factors that determine prognosis.
