ABSTRACT
Purpose:To determine how helpful is the magnetic resonance to diagnose meniscal and cruciate ligaments injuries in the knee, taking the arthroscopy as reference standard for the diagnosis of these lesions. Material and methods: We included 27 patients who had undergone knee magnetic resonance at Hospital Angeles Mocel with diagnosis of meniscal and cruciate ligament lesions. We perform a therapeutic arthroscopy to these patients and we compared the diagnostic images to magnetic resonance. Results: The diagnosis in magnetic resonance was more accurate and specific in patients between 30 and 50 years old. We found the most accuracy in cruciate ligaments, with a sensitivity of 100%, the lateral meniscus with the lowest sensitivity of 66% and all the lesions with specificity above 90%. Conclusions: The magnetic resonance diagnosis of meniscal and cruciate ligaments is highly accurate. Is the most adequate diagnostic tool to decide for a therapeutic arthroscopy, that is preferred than a diagnostic arthroscopy, it is faster and we avoid surgery risks.REFERENCES
