ABSTRACT
Ashbaugh on 1967 described for the first time the acute respiratory distress syndrome. On 1994 The American-European Con-sensus Conference Comittee defined the diagnostic criteria. This article is a review of the etiology, pathophysiology and recent treatments of the Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
