ABSTRACT
Infectious mononucleosis (also known as “Mono” or “The Kiss Disease”) is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, witch is a member of the gamma herpes virus family, these are capable to produce latent infections in the host and remain in this state for a long period of time. This virus was discovered in 1964 by an English investigator by the name of Anthony Epstein when he was conducting a research on the Burritt’s Lymphoma. Most of the times the mononucleosis has a benign and self-limited course, but in rare cases severe complications may happen, that is the reason why we should be able to deal with these unpleasant surprises.
