ABSTRACT
Child abuse (CA) is known among pediatricians; it is also called mistreated boy syndrome (MBS). This problem is a medico-social-legal pathology. Its physical, social, economic and legal consequences for the child, his family and society in general become a world-wide public health problem. In order to understand this pathology it is necessary to know, to understand and to accept that it has several facets: medical, psychological, social and legal. If these features are not taken into consideration it will be difficult to establish a correct and early diagnosis, proper management and its prevention. The Coordinating Commission of the National Institutes of Health and Hospitals of High Specialty of the Secretariat of Health is aware of this problem and its importance. For this reason it has established a Committee for the Study and the Integral Management to child abuse. For this purpose, it has summoned medical and paramedical, government and civil professionals of Mexico City who deal with this problem. The objective is to unify criteria of diagnosis, registry and nomenclature in order to assess its frequency and models of presentation in the Mexico City.
