ABSTRACT
The human foot has three functions: motor, balance and buffer function. Their 55 joints and its 28 bones form a vault with three support points jointed by three arches, but internal arc is the only one clinically observable. Ligaments are the static stabilizers of this structure, while muscles are the dynamic ones. Perfect balance among them, enables the proper functioning of the foot. Under normal conditions, body burden falls between the 2
nd and 3
rd beam, but when ligaments hiperlaxity is present, load deviates towards the first beam or inside it, making foot warp in valgus of the hindfoot and pronation of the midfoot. X-rays in dorsoplantar and lateral projections with the patient standing up allow an assessment of this structure.
