Neurilemoma (NLM) or giant retroperitoneal Schwannoma

ABSTRACT

In 1910 Verocay described the first peripheral nerve tumor and it was not until 1935 that the term neurilemoma (NLM) was introduced. Neurilemomas are rare tumors in any localization. Up to 1990 there were fewer than 80 cases of retroperitoneal neurilemomas reported in the international literature.
Neurilemomas make up less than 0.2-0.5% of the neoplasms of the organism. The case of a woman presenting with this uncommon pathology and the diagnostic approach and treatment involved is presented along with a literature review.
