ABSTRACT
The object of this investigation is to understand the semantic concept of words man and woman according to students of the first year of medical school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, before touching the subject of sexuality during the Medical Psychology course. A questionnaire was applied to 163 students from 8 groups that were selected at random. Men tended to see themselves as strong, intelligent and workers, while viewing woman as beautiful, intelligent and prone to love. Women on the other hand see themselves first as intelligent, related to love themes and consider man as strong, intelligent and gentlemen. This study suggests men and women still play the roles that evolution and society gave them, but there is a certain tendency to give women a more intellectual place (specially from the women’s view point) and men must still keep showing strength in our modern day society.
