ABSTRACT
The Ponseti Method of treating club foot has been shown to be effective in children up to 2 years of age. However it has been demonstrated recently how children older than 2 years can have a rate of success of more than 60 %. The current short term follow up study, demonstrate how we get a 70,8% of good results, with 29,1% of complications. We prospectively reviewed 24 cases (30 feet) with diagnosis of Club foot older than 3 years old. We had initially 4 patients with recent diagnosis and 20 were recurrences. All treated with Ponseti technique with some modifications. The mean age at presentation was 3,6 years, 14 male / 10 female, mean follow up 5,3 months, mean time of immobilization was 5 weeks. We conclude like other studies Ponseti method is safe, low cost and first line of treatment for children with late diagnosis and recurrences in the walking age.
