ABSTRACT
Blepharitis associated with the presence of
Demodex folliculorum is probably more common than any ophthalmologist might suppose. It invades the hair follicles, sebaceous glands and eyelashes of human beings in a widespread distribution throughout the world. The pathogenic role of Demodex is still a matter of controversy. Morphology, habitat and life cycle of the acarus, are reviewed as well as pathogenesis and treatment.
