ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this article is to compare the preoperatory and postoperatory diagnosis on patients who received an arthroscopy surgery at the Hospital San Juan de Dios (HSJD), from May to June 2005. The control group was made out of by patients who were referred only by HSJD's orthopedic residents or specialists; with the purpose of analyzing the real relationship between the clinical diagnosis, by a direct and specialized physical examination of the patient, and the arthroscopy findings.
With these results, we could determine whether there is a significant statistic relationship between the clinical diagnosis and the arthroscopic results. Within the specified period 74 arthroscopies were practiced in the HSJD, out of which 32 cases were females and 42 were males. According to results, doctors realized that the most accurate diagnosis was the rupture of the internal meniscus. In 33 cases, realizing the low diagnostic accuracy of only 45.6%. By the results, we can tell that in the HSJD there are deficiencies at the present moment of practicing the physical examination, because literature sets the clinic as having one of the best diagnosable methods.
