ABSTRACT
The psoas abscess is a rare clinical entity which is difficult to diagnose. With an ambiguous clinical presentation, diagnosis can be discovered in subsequent clinical studies and even been overlooked. Its clinical presentation is vague abdominal pain, lower back or flanks associated with fever and leukocytosis. It can be often confused with urinary sepsis and other infectious diseases of abdominal type. The treating physician must consider this diagnostic possibility in order to find it in patients with a blurry clinic. The development in diagnostic imaging techniques has greatly improved both, the diagnosis and treatment of this pathology. Usually the treatment tends to be enough accomplished with a percutaneous drainage guided by ultrasound or CT plus an appropriate antibiotic therapy.
