ABSTRACT
This paper reports the case of a 27-year-old man with nephrotic syndrome in whom the kidney biopsy showed focal and segmental glomerular foamy cells. The finding was difficult to interpret and was defined two years later when a new kidney biopsy revealed the classical features of focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSG). Although foamy cells may present in FSG the finding consistently associates with clearcut classical glomerular lesions and has not been reported es the presenting feature. The finding might represent the earliest recognizable lesion of this condition in accordance to the proposed pathogenesis for FSG.REFERENCES
