ABSTRACT
Introduction: The reconstruction techniques for the mandible’s resection have been described in adult patients. We present a technique that can be used in pediatric patients who underwent resection of the mandible.Case Report: Seven year old male, with an alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma on the left side of the mandible. The surgical technique consisted in total resection of the tumor, after lesion free border was ensure, titanium prosthesis was placed and then covered with a deltopectoral skin flap.
Discussion: Despite of the diagnoses, mandible’s reconstruction in adult and pediatric patients requires the use of a structure that provides adequate movement with good support and stability without rejection. We achieve these characteristics with the use of titanium prosthesis, and a deltopectoral skin flap that avoids using microsurgery procedures that have major risks of complications.
