ABSTRACT
Nosocomial infections are a problem among health institutions and are considered as indicators of quality attention. An analytical study was made by the Comité de Prevención de Infecciones Intrahospitalarias (CPIIH) of the Centro Internacional de Restauración Neurológica (CIREN). All septic episodes at the CIREN occurred in 2009 were included. Prevalence rate of nosocomial infections was 4.1%; major frequency was observed in the Neuropediatric Clinic; respiratory tract infections were the most frequent, and urinary tract infections represented the second cause. It was a decreased use of microbiology tests. Antibiotic prescription was given in 36.9% of hospitalized patients.
