ABSTRACT
The incidence of complications by
pertussis diseases has steadily increases in the last times. This is especially true for infants minors of a year of age.
There is substantial indirect evidence that maternal antibodies protect neonates from pertussis-related death. The immunization with pertussis in some studies has demonstrated by means of cordocentesis the increase in fetal levels of IgG during the second and third trimesters of the pregnancy. DPTa is a recently authorized vaccine in the pregnancy, but limited data suggesting that high maternal pertussis antibodies interfere with immune responses in infants given whole cell pertussis vaccines. Apparently, no suppression has been shown for acelular pertussis antigens. Some studies that clarify this topic might be necessaries.
