ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION.STDs are transmitted in a general sexual contact. The casual pathogen has its reservoir in the human being and generally it doesn´t have any vectors. It´s produced fundamentally by skin contact and mucosa. WHO estimates that 340 millions of new cases of STDs are reported in a frequent matter.Objective. To identify the frequency of STDs and its clinical characteristics in 15 year-old women and over, and treated at HUP during 2008.
METHODOLOGY. The study was descriptive, transversal and retrospective, and it targeted 15 year-old women and over diagnosed with an STD and attended at HUP during 2008.
RESULTS. The frequency of STDs was 6.96 out of 100 consults on 15 year-old women and over. Vaginal candidiasis represented 38.5% of cases (104); papilomavirus, 30.8%; tricomoniasis, 15.4%; gardnerella, 9.6%; HIV-AIDS, 3.8%; and Chlamydia trachomatis, 1.9%. The mean age observed was 34.5 years-old. Married women represented 59.6%; 73% of the patients showed leucorrhea, 67% showed itch and burning sensation, and 34.6% showed dyspareunia.
CONCLUSIONS. 104 cases of STDs was studied. The most common STD was Candidiasis albicans, and the most frequent and dangerous was HPV, but the 4 reported cases of HIV are considerated as lethal. The common clinical manifestation was leucorr-hea, followed by itch, burning sensation and dyspareunia. It’s assumed the attention and quality were good, based in one patient comments.
