ABSTRACT
Fascioliasis is a worldwide zoonosis. In Mexico, it is more frequent in the state of Guanajuato. The infestation form in the human is by the ingestion of contaminated aquatic vegetables. We present the first case in the national literature and the fifth in the international literature of the features of fascioliasis as liver abscess. A forty year old woman was admitted to ABC medical center due to an eighth week history of epigastric pain, plentyness, and fever. At the physical examination her vital signs were normal, the abdomen showed an epigastric mass of about 2 cm. Laboratory tests showed leucocitosis of 11.3 without eosinophilia, the rest of the tests were normal. The abdominal tomography (CT) revealed the presence of facetated lesions in the left hepatic lobe. She underwent an exploratory laparotomy with resection of the affected hepatic segment. The hystopathologic study demonstrated the presence of
Fasciola and by specific serological test showed high titers (1:2048). Praziquantel was indicated for seven days, the patient has completely recovered and is currently asymptomatic.
