ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the ketotifeno vs immunotherapy, in the bronchial chronicle asthma, in the pediatric population. It is a study of cases, in patient, with diagnosis of bronchial asthma that has received treatment with ketotifeno or immunotherapy ≥ 6 months in continuous form. Divides in two groups: Group A, treaties with ketotifeno and group B, treaties with immunotherapy. The statistical analysis which consisted in the Student t test and the calculation of the standard deviation. In the group A (n = 44), the time of evolution was presented in 3.3 ± 3.1 years, and treatment 0.7 ± 0.2 years, number of relapses 1.8 ± 1.6 and hospitalizations 1.1 ± 1.3 per year. The group B (n = 33) time of evolution 3.9 ± 3.8 years, treatment 1.0 ± 0.7 years, relapses 1.9 ± 1.8 and hospitalizations 2.7 ± 7.1 per year. The duration of the treatment and number of hospitalizations increase in the group that he received immunotherapy (p = ‹ 0.05), in relation to the relapses significant statistical difference was not presented. In the group tried with immunotherapy, you associates antihistaminics and steroids in 96.9%, this translates little effectiveness of the therapy hyposensitize, conditioned by the long term evolution of the illness, possibly because these patients continue exposed to the allergens and irritants triggers.
