ABSTRACT
Vaccination is an effort with a noble goal: to protect a population –children or adults, men or women- against diseases that have effective vaccines so that they have a better future. Pediatric vaccination has achieved great advances in preventig and eradicating certain diseases, and although there is adequate production and availability of vaccines for adolescents and adults, especially pregnant women, the actual vaccine coverage leaves much to be desired. This “break” in vaccine usage in those age groups is due to a variety of causes; this is especially notable in the vaccination in women during their reproductive years, a period which is not recognized as a particularly critical time in public health, even by physicians themselves and their patients. As the present time there are few formal recommendations for the vaccination of the population in their actively reproductive years, and these are limited to the vaccination against a few diseases in groups at high risk, either because of their advanced age or the conditions at which they work.
