ABSTRACT
We present results of medical surgical treatment in six patients with coccidioidomycosis. Four patients had pulmonary disease and two pleural empyema. The treatment was selected in relation to the clinic radiological data of the patients. High-dose fluconazol was used for several months in chronic pneumonia cases. Amphotericine B was used in a patient with diseminated (miliar) pneumonia. Pleural cases were held up under medical and surgical treatment. Four patients cured, and were Coccidioides immitis-negative, another one continues asymptomatic and stable and was fungus-negative. Miliar case died. Coccidioidomycosis is similar to tuberculosis and must be differentiated by KOH 10% direct study, sputum mycologic culture, broncho-alveolar lavage or searching fungus in affected-tissue biopsy.REFERENCES
