ABSTRACT
Background: There are few studies conducted in Mexico on increasing rates of cardiovascular diseases in postmenopausal patients with metabolic syndrome.
Objective: To determine frequency of metabolic syndrome in women of 40 to 55 years old, that are in perimenopause and go to the external consultation of the Materno Infantil Inguarán Hospital
Material and methods: We made transversal, observational, and prospective study, including women of 40 to 55 years old, that went to external consultation of the Materno Infantil Inguarán Hospital, since January to June 2007 (n=60). To all the patients it was taken them blood samples in uninformed stop to value glucose, triglycerides, HDL, pressure blood and Body Measure Index and wais-to-hip ratio.
Results: The patients went to the Hospital by gynecologic pathology. We found Metabolic Syndrome frequency and the abnormal factors were triglyceride, waist circumference. We found high frequency hypertrglyceridemia and central obesity.
Conclusions: In the perimenopause patients, to exist high frequency and predominance in the 40 and 50 years old, hers were asymptomatic. Before to be important to made screening in this patients, be cheap, and we can to prevent chronic disease such as Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 and Arterial Hypertension.
Increase quality of live in this group of patients.
