ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify sociodemographic and academic factors that influence the endpoint efficiency rate of students attending a specialization course in Family Medicine under an agreement between the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE).Materials and Methods: Descriptive and crosssectional study performed between 2005 and 2008. We analyzed the school registry records of 376 students of the 1993/1995 student class, and processed this information by descriptive statistics. Results: Of the 376 students, 45 had no record on file. The majority of the 331 students were males, i.e., 241 (61.4%), and the average age of both males and females was 39 years. The majority of the students were married (264, 79.5%), and average course grade was 8.34 of a possible total of 10. The majority were UNAM graduates 187 (56.5%), and the average number of children they had was 2_3 (55.8%). Conclusions: Until 2008, of the 376 students enrolled, 294 (78.19%) completed the course, while 183 (48.7%) graduated, and there is about to graduate 111 (29.5%) were about to graduate, and 29 (7.7%) failed. Determining factors for not completing the course successfully were, lack of command of a foreign language and having no experience in research methodology and writing of scientific publications.REFERENCES
