ABSTRACT
Chronic Chagas’ heart disease is a complication of American trypanosomiasis caused by the bite of vinchuca (also known as cone nose, assassin bug, kissing bug, or reduviid bug), infected with Trypanosoma cruzi.
OBJECTIVE. To describe the electrocardiographic findings in apparently healthy patients with antibodies to Trypanosoma cruzi.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS. We obtained simple frequencies, proportions, prevalence of antibodies to T. cruzi.
RESULTS. Of the cohort found seropositive for Chagas disease were 46 subjects of these only 39 (84.8%) agreed to continue study in which the study underwent 12-lead electrocardiogram using the usual clinical, in 48.7% ( n 19) of the electrocardiograms showed normal waves taken and the other remaining 51.3% (n 20) electrocardiographic abnormalities were found.
DISCUSSION. Our results are consistent with those described in the literature, such studies are directed to the intended search for chronic forms of Chagas disease which poses a real problem because in daily practice does not occur and this has become underestimated health problem.
