ABSTRACT
Staphylococcus hominis is a strain of the Gram-positive cocci group, recognized as coagulasa–negative Staphylococci (CoNS). Some times ago the CoNs were been found as the mayor causative microorganisms of neonatal nosocomial infections in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), causing 48% of the cases, Staphylococcus hominis no has been identified as an important agent related with nosocomial infection, in base to references in the literature. We present a outbreak of nosocomial bacteriemia in the NICU of the one tertiary hospital attention in México City (Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez) in which was isolated Staphylococcus hominis from six infants over a period from February 14, 2008 to February 26, 2008. They were 2 male and 4 female, the first case was detected 7 days alter second patient. There not were factors associated with the age (from 17 days to 2 months [media: 30 days]) and weight (from 1.050 to 2.975 g [media: 2.300 g]), only the length of stay, it was in rate of 36.5 days with range of 8-43 days, as like as 5 of them have had a intravascular catheter. There was one death (second case). We considered primary bacteriemia in 4 cases, and 2 cases were designed like bacteriemia associated with intravascular therapy. To date, we don’t find previous studies in which sowed outbreak causing by Staphylococcus hominis in our country. For this, the purpose of present this study is to consider this pathogen like an important microorganisms in neonates.REFERENCES
