ABSTRACT
Introduction. Detection of micoplasmas by fast a test is an alternative diagnosis in sites where the laboratory test is not available.Methods. Means a prospective cohort study we studied clinical endocervical samples and seminal samples of women and men with infertility diagnosis. To both we inoculated the clinical samples in urea and arginine broths, as well as the Mycofast® commercial kit.
Sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values were analyzed; we compared the fast test vs. culture broths.
Results. Twenty-five couples were studied—we found sentitivities over 70%, and predictive positive values lower than 40%. The predictive negative value was greater than 90%.
Conclusion. The commercial fast test is recommended to be used in places without microbiological infrastructure to detect mycoplasmas. The culture broth or molecular biology is still the best diagnostic method however.
