ABSTRACT
Introduction: The tracheobronchial abnormalities in children will be associated with pulmonary infections and persistent airway obstructions symptoms. The term tracheal bronchus is applied to any airway coming from the trachea, originated above the carina level.
Case presentation: A 5 month-old female with 4 previous hospitalizations secondary to pulmonary infections. She came in with respiratory distress and persistent bronchoespasm. Shows a pectum excavatum, silverman 4 and bilateral stertors. The blood count report with 10% of immature (band) forms. Chest x-ray and TC reported a right tracheal bronchus of the upper lobe. During rigid bronchoscopy its origin was identified at the carina. Toracotomy was performed with lobe tracheal bronchus “pig bronchus” resection. The respiratory symptoms disappeared.
Discussion: The evaluation of patients with tracheal bronchus require multiple imaging technics for the anomaly diagnosis.
