ABSTRACT
Sixty patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type 2) were studied to evaluating the presence of microalbuminuria and the coexistence of some factors related with the disease. From them, 33.3% presented microalbuminuria. After 10 years of evolution of the disease, 42.4% of patients presented microalbuminuria. Another evaluated factors such as metabolic control (44.4%), presence of retinopathy (51.6%) and diastolic blood pressure higher than 90 mmHg (40%) were associated with the presence of microalbuminuria. We concluded that microalbuminuria was more frequently associated to longer duration of disease, metabolic discontrol, retinopathy and diastolic blood pressure higher than 90 mmHg.
