ABSTRACT
High rate morbility and mortality due to nosocomial infections is a problem in neonatal intensive care units (NICU), world wide. Colonization of digestive tract due to multirresistent bacteria is the first step of nosocomial infections, this colonization is a natural reservoir within the hospital environment.
Use of oral probiotics can be an alternative mechanism to modify colonization of gastrointestinal tract, it is easy to administrate, non invasive, antibiotics use is non necessary, enhance digestive natural protection mechanisms. Although, at this moment there is no cientific evidence for oral probiotics administration as an strategy for control of multirresistent bacteria colonization in new borns.
