ABSTRACT
The number of cases of AIDS in Mexico has been estimated around 80,00 in America we have the third place, and worlwide the 13th.
The development of sensitive and precise nucleid acid amplification assays the measurement of HIV-1 «viral load» infected patients and powerful new antiretroviral drugs have been esential elements in a favourable change in the monitoring and adjustment of an effective therapy.
Viral load assays can be affected by numerous variables of interest and concern to the clinicians treating HIV-1 infected patients, the sources of these variables can be categorized as preanalytical, analytical and post-analytical, like sample collection, processing and storage; the effect of vaccinations and concurrent microbial infections, biological variations; the interpretation of his results; and the election of the most adequate viral load assay in terms of precisions specificity, reproducibility, linearity and cost.
