ABSTRACT

Objective. To determine frequency and type of airborne microorganisms in different areas of process in shoes factories and its relation to workers health.
Materials and Methods. We evaluated 4 areas of process in a shoes factory. We taked air samples for culture and we registered symptoms and signs of each worker Results. Bacteria were present in 39% of the samples, yests in 32% and fungi in 29% . Among bacteria 47% were Gram (+) , 32% were Gram (-) and 21% actinomycetes. Among workers laryngitis, head ache, conjunctivitis and pharyngitis were the more frequent.
Conclusions. There is association between presence of airborne microorganisms and presence of signs and symptoms among workers.
