ABSTRACT
Introduction: There are few documented reports of the frequency of mass in the head and neck, hospitals in Mexico, so it is interesting to know the experience and make it known throughout the country.Material and Methods: We analyzed the clinical records and pathological diagnosis from 1 January 1986 to December 31, 2003, with a diagnosis of mass in the head and neck.
Results: We achieved a total of 366 patients, 228 were male and 138 female, congenital (178), neoplastic (101) and inflammatory (87). Mass was the most frequent benign hemangioma (14), and secondly lipoma (8). Of the malignant masses in Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (14) was the most common and inflammatory lymph node hyperplasia (50) was the most common.
Conclusions: The most common masses, were benign, but you should never stop suspecting possible diagnosis of malignancy. This will limit complications and sequelae in our patients.
