ABSTRACT
The diagnosis of sexual child abuse (SCA) is often diffi cult especially when there is little experience in the dynamics of SCA. Several factors are involved. Coercion is one of the most important to establish the diagnosis. During evaluation, it is indispensable to avoid thesensation of victimization, and it should be done by an interdisciplinary experienced team. If this is not possible, the patient must be referred to a specialized institution. Repetition of interviews, physical interrogation and exploration should be avoided. In the case of chronic aggressions physical examination is not urgent. The mostfrequent type of abuse is father-daughter incest. The most common aggressionis the petting in 90% of the cases; for this reason, nogenito-anal injuries are detected. The possitive or negative consequences of SCA in the child’s life depend on the familial support, on the degree of guilt of the child caused by the parents, and the strategies of the victim to confront the problem.
