ABSTRACT
or years in Dentistry, dentists have been drilling cavities with all kinds of burs (diamond, carbide, etc.) on the natural teeth to prevent caries growth; but in many cases, were destroying more tooth structure than the one needed. Today, an old but new system has reemerged, it is called air-abrasion. This instrument uses micro-particles (aluminum-oxide) mixed with air to remove decayed areas from the tooth, much the way a sandblaster removed dust from steel; which eliminates the vibration and noise from the regular drills. Once the decayed tissue has been removed, the tooth is filled with the newer generations of composites. The purpose of this paper is to explain what is and what can be done with micro-abrasion in Operative Dentistry today.REFERENCES
