ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chronic Renal Insufficiency consists of the irreversible loss of nephrons caused by a progressive deterioration of the renal function. This last problem may lead the patient to a substitute treatment program, which generates a strong impact over the patients’ physical and emotional health, their economic situation, and specially their life quality when it is related to health. Objective: To know the association that exists between physical and mind health and the life quality of a patient that suffers from chronic renal insufficiency who takes part of the hemodiafiltration program. Methodology: A non experimental, correlational, transversal and prospective study was carried out on N = 41 patients at the Service of Nephrology in the Instituto Nacional de Cardiología Ignacio Chávez (INCICh) from May 1st to June 30th 2009. It was employed a tool created by the Center for the Control of Diseases, called «Measures of Healthy Days». This guidance was used to determine life quality. Some of the permanent patients from hemodiafiltration program were included in the study; however, those patients with acute events, temporal treatment or when the patient was moved into another hospital were excluded from the study. The statistical analysis was performed through the SPSS statistical program, version 17 for Windows, including Spearman’s resume and correlation measures. Results: The female patients prevailed in the 54% of the cases. The 44% of the patients considered that their life quality could be regarded as medium term; the 34% considered it as good; the 49% of the patients spends between 26 to 30 healthy days; and only the 12% referred not having spent any healthy days. There is a positive Spearman’s relationship between non-healthy days and days without either physical or mind health. Conclusion: Life quality is related to physical and mind health condition. This last fact enables the patients to satisfy their needs about personal attention besides performing their daily activities and working normally without their family support.REFERENCES
