ABSTRACT
Helicobacter pylori and its pathological potential has been the cause of multiple diseases of the stomach and duodenum. Its relationship with peptic ulcer disease has been the most studied one, but it has also been related with other illnesses. However, many of these associations even remain without a sure demonstration, and the debate for their confirmation even continues. The incidence of the
Helicobacter pylori infection in the world is high existing a great number of reports; our country is not exempt of this, with a high percent of infection for this bacteria. Camagüey exhibits an alarming increment of patients affected by this cause, and for that reason was carried out a descriptive transverse observational study. From 107 patients that went to the Services of Endoscopy of the University Hospitals «Manuel Ascunce Domenech» and «Amalia Simoni» 17 completed the approaches for the study. The patients that had an age between 46 and 60 years constitute the most representative group, with a light prevalence of the male sex, the predominant endoscopic diagnosis was the chronic gastritis and the reflux esophagitis, followed by the duodenal ulcer and the duodenitis, the culture test was not effective in most of the cases. Although the endoscopic technique with the method of Violet Crystal stain is an invasive procedure its use is justified by its specificity for the quick diagnosis in the
Helicobacter pylori infection, besides the economic advantages that it offers in regard to another stain methods.
