ABSTRACT
The National Academy of Medicine originated from two corporations, both drew up and published their respective newspapers. The Periódico de la Academia de Medicina de México appeared from November 30, 1851 to September 30, 1852 under the direction of Dr. Leopoldo Río de la Loza, whom at the same time was acting president of the Academy. For its brevity, variety and richness of themes and authors, the publication gives an excellent account of medical interests of the time, the impact of basic science and technology in medicine. Throughout its pages it is perceived with clarity the persistence of anatomoclinic methods, the current updated knowledge of Mexican physicians, and the elite medical personalities of the day and whose names appeared in all spheres. The careful study of the Periódico de la Academia de Medicina de México (1852) exemplifies those aspects.
