ABSTRACT
This paper is a review from the cultural anthropology point of view, the role played by the figure of the physician and its various representations in the evolution of human arts. Its social implications and in the art itself. It is divided into two parts: the first part referred to the role of physicians in the most ancient cultures and in the baroque period, while the second part focuses on the artistic representations of the physician in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
